Uris Hall
ADDRESS: 109 Tower Rd Ithaca, NY 14850
Uris Hall is the social science building for the College of Arts
and Sciences at Cornell with the Departments of Economics, Sociology,
Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies (FGSS, formerly Women's
Studies), and Psychology. Also located within the building is the
Western Societies Program offices, the Mario Einaudi Center for
International Studies, a 428 seat auditorium used for classes as
well as by Cornell Cinema, psychology labs, and part of the Cornell
Brain Collection.
Uris Hall was built of cortan steel, an alloy which should turn a
bluish yellow color over time. The building has not reached its
target color yet due to the low concentration of pollutants in the
local atmosphere which act as catalysts for the necessary
reactions to change the steel's color.
The brain collection houses the brain of John Rulloff, a notorious
murderer born in 1819 and the namesake of Rulloff's bar and
grill in Collegetown, as well as the brain of Burt Wilder, the
originator of the collection.
